Sometimes timing is everything. Brent Parcher found that out when he stopped into KVMR one day in April of 2008 to see about doing some community service hours. We happened to be short of front desk help, so he started out by filling in at our reception desk. By the time he had fulfilled his community service obligation a regular weekly shift had opened up, and he slipped right in.
Brent is a friendly guy, with a bright smile and easy way....just the right kind of person to staff the busy KVMR reception desk and all that entails. He is also a long time listener of KVMR, having grown up in Sacramento and lived in Grass Valley for the past 7 years. People often recognize him as the former shipping manager of the now defunct Mountain Mail Plus, where he worked for 6 years before joining the family at KVMR.
Brent is a classically trained pianist, and an all around music lover with very eclectic tastes. He hopes to take the broadcaster training class and become a broadcaster, but when asked what kind of show he would do, he smiles and gets vague... "let's just call it the Color of Sound." Though he isn't currently performing his music publicly, his favorite thing to do on a Saturday morning is grab his guitar and sit on the porch and play along with KVMR. Aside from piano and guitar, Brent also has a collection of ukuleles. He is also a self proclaimed Karaoke Freak, though he has taken to hosting private karaoke gatherings at his house since his favorite local joint in Colfax closed down.
Brent is a collector of many things, including toys (ask him about his Star Wars collection!) and music posters and memorabilia. He is also the best dressed volunteer at KVMR, with a western shirt collection large enough to keep him clothed for months without wearing the same shirt twice! He is also a talented photographer, specializing in wildlife and nature shots, and he has some unusual pets, such as a Gopher Snake, a Leopard Gecko, a salamander and some newts.
Like most KVMR volunteers, Brent feels like he gets so much from KVMR that it pleases him to be able to give back. We sure appreciate his easy going presence. Thanks Brent!
