Whether seated behind a microphone interviewing leading-edge thinkers of the 21st century on his show Conversations, or DJing music for a roomful of ecstatic sweaty bodies, Michael Stone is committed to healing the wounds that separate, alienate and marginalize people.
"This is a critical time in history, and each of us has the chance to change the prevailing cultural story. We hear negative stories all around us, especially in media, and we forget that so much good is possible-- breakdowns often foreshadow breakthroughs. Now is our chance to be part of the greatest evolutionary transformation in history--to move from a parasitic consumer culture to one that honors all life as we become true custodians of the earth."
Michael Stone spent over 20 years as a corporate consultant throughout North America and Europe. His mission was to bring heart and meaning to the workplace through authentic communication. After thousands of hours training, consulting and coaching, he saw that people live from their thinking mind. "We have become a society of talking heads at a time when we need to access the ancient cellular wisdom of the heart and body."
Through his love of movement, he began to see the body as a vast temple, a sacred storehouse of ancient wisdom. Working with movement pioneer Gabrielle Roth, he discovered the 5 Rhythms, energetic maps of consciousness that, as Roth says, "allow us to turn our suffering into art and our art into awareness."
Inspired by his mentorship with Roth, Michael began offering movement classes in Nevada City, creating a mix of dance, poetry and meditation, all designed to awaken the spirit of the conscious dancer and to create a community for healing.
"By getting in touch with the patterns locked in our bodies, we release habitual ways of being and integrate new ways to relate to our communities and ourselves,"
Michael became DJ Divine, sharing music from around the world in his movement classes and filling in on morning shows for his favorite station, KVMR. It was then that he saw the incredible potential of radio to transform consciousness not only through music, but also through the exchange of innovative ideas.
His life-long passion with environmental organizations, such as the Pachamama Alliance and Bioneers gave him access to leading edge thinkers in the environmental, social justice and spiritual arenas. They included visionaries rarely heard in mainstream radio such as Richard Heinberg, Joanna Macy, Lynn Twist, Andrew Harvey, Peter Russell, David Korten and others.
"Nowhere else in media was I hearing these inspiring visionaries and their positive calls to action, and I saw that radio could bring new hope and possibility to people. It could be a channel for true transformation."
His music show blossomed into a series of conversations with scientists, intellectuals, artists, spiritual activists and philosophers who offered faith in a new story for the future of all life. Conversations was born.
"We can change the world, but we need to engage in real dialogue about how and what needs to be changed. KVMR was one place I could offer a forum for people to speak openly and honestly about issues that mattered. And instead of talking about what we don't want, we explore what we do want and how to make that possible."
Michael's vision is to focus on our shared humanity rather than on right- and left-wing political divisions. At the heart of being human are the most basic of desires, including happy families, a clean planet, social justice for all, and spiritual fulfillment.
In moving meditation classes, he presents different musical rhythms, opening participants to the essential qualities of the spirit, many of which have been denied or forgotten since early childhood.
Stone reflects, "This takes us right to the heart of what it means to be human." Michael Stone promotes a message that celebrates our universal humanity on the dance floor and through meaningful and authentic conversations that offer positive possibilities for our future and our world.
Conversations embodies Michael's unwavering commitment to bringing forth a world that works for everyone. He is a passionate promoter of positive change in the world.
